LSTM – Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), founded in 1898, was the first institution in the world dedicated to research and teaching in the field of tropical medicine. As a registered charity, LSTM works across the world, often in very difficult circumstances, to fulfil their mission of reducing the burden of sickness and mortality in disease endemic countries, dealing with diseases such as TB, HIV/AIDS, malaria, dengue and lymphatic filariasis.

Dr. Jenny Hill manages the Malaria in Pregnancy (MiP) Consortium based at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). Dr. Hill is a public health epidemiologist with an MSc in Medical Parasitology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and a PhD on the delivery, access and use of interventions to control malaria in pregnancy in sub-Saharan Africa from the University of Amsterdam. Previously Dr. Hill worked with UNICEF (1989-1995) to develop community based malaria control programmes as part of broader child survival programmes in Africa. In 1995, Dr. Hill joined the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine as Deputy Director of the DFID-funded Malaria Consortium Resource Centre. In 2004, she moved to the Malaria Epidemiology unit at LSTM, led by Professor Feiko ter Kuile, to develop grant proposals for the establishment of the global Malaria in Pregnancy (MiP) Consortium. Since its launch in 2007, Dr. Hill manages the MiP Consortium’s Secretariat at LSTM and coordinates its research theme to promote the public health impact of malaria in pregnancy control.
